DOWN SIZING and RIGHT SIZING

Downsizing and right-sizing is a process.  We suggest you give yourself 3-6 months to find the right new place, decide what you are going to give away, sell, pack, and unpack.  Once you’ve made the decision to move, start with giving away or selling what you are not going to take with you.  We can help you through the decision making.  Clutter Cutter offers packing and unpacking services.  Our team can meet your movers on moving day.  We will unpack and arrange furniture as your movers bring up your things.  Talk about a quick move in!

Clutter Cutter offers a unique downsizing service.  We will come to your current home and discuss with you what you’d like to bring with you to your new home.  Next, is going to your new home.  We will make a graph of the new living space and make cutouts of the furniture you’d like to bring with you.  With the graph, you will see how your furniture will fit or not fit in your new place.  When moving day comes, there is no guess work about where furniture is going to go.  No stress.

If you have decided to move to independent living, please take a look at our suggestions of what to take and the limits on those items.

Independent Living

Most independent living facilities do not have full kitchens.  The kitchen areas are small.  Storage in most of the facilities is adequate for simple living.

We are here to help you through the moving process and all the decisions that come with right-sizing.  If you follow our methods, your move will not be chaotic and stressful.

Recommended List of Items

  • 2 sets of bath towels (2 bath towels, 2 hand towels, 2 wash clothes)

  • 2 sets of bed sheets

  • No more than 3 blankets

  • 1 comforter set.

  • No more than a place setting for 4 (dishes & silverware); 6 glasses, 4 wine glasses (if you are a wine drinker)

  • Crockpot, air fryer or electric skillet.  (No more than 2 cooking appliances.)

  • 2 mixing/serving bowls.

  • 2 serving plates.

  • Minimal cooking utensils; 1 large spoon, 1 large fork, 1 whisk, 1 spatula, can opener, cork screw

  • Toiletries as needed (no bulk)

  • Paper products as needed (no bulk)

  • Clothes that will fit in the given closets.

  • Art & Decorations:  Only take with you the art and decor YOU truly can’t live without.

When you’ve decided to move, don’t assume your children, family members or friends want your things. Most often, they do not. If there is something you’d like them to have, ask them.
If you get a YES response, let them know they will need to come and get the item/things before you move. You will not be taking them to your new home.  Following this suggestion will make you and them feel good.
